Marble is metamorphic rock composed of crystalized carbon minerals. (It’s essentially a type of stone.)
Laser cutting not achievable
It’s not possible to laser cut marble with Co2 laser machines. It is best to have it supplied to us pre-cut to size using a waterjet cutting service.
Raster & Vector engraving
As a natural material, the laser reacts to marble differently depending on the tone and hardness. In most cases the laser will produce a grainy finish with little contrast to the usually glossy marble surface.
We will not know how the laser reacts to your marble until we test it meaning we can’t guarantee any specific outcome or result prior to testing. You will need to supply us with a sample of your material for us to establish adequate laser settings for your application prior to running a larger job. There is a charge for initial sampling.
Engraving marble can produce dust that will need to be cleaned from the surface once you receive your job.
Variation in engraving
Please be aware that as a natural material, tone and hardness vary from piece to piece. This can sometimes have a slight impact on the appearance of the engraving if producing multiple pieces. Variation in tone can also affected by power distribution if you have artwork that varies in size.
On some stone materials larger depths of between 2mm-3mm are sometimes possible. For this to be achieved, the laser has to run very slowly and using multiple passes which makes the job costly to process. Deeper engraving also produces a lot more dust particles that will need to cleaned from the surface.
If deeper engraving is required, we recommend that positive portions of your artwork (i.e the white areas of your artwork – the inverse of what’s being engraved away) be no less the 2mm in thickness. If any less the engraving will tend to become quite fragile and can break easily when handled.
Your supply for laser engraving only. We don’t hold stock of any marble material, you will need to supply.
Thickness: Machine holds any thickness up to 330mm
Sheet size: Max engrave area is 1246×710mm. Larger sheets of stone can also be accommodated up to 2000×1246mm
Max weight: 30kg
Drawing templates are not currently available for this material. Draft your file so that your art board matches the size of your marble sheet.
